Gertrude Bloom is a tough, independent woman, who doesn't need anyone... or so she claims. All is fine until the tall, dark, and handsome Harry comes home from sea and recognizes there is much more to Gerty than her gruff exterior. Through the night and the coming morning, the audience watches the development of a relationship between a dreamer and a survivor that only proves there is more to any of us than meets the eye. Recommended for mature audiences.

Please note: All seating is general admission. Online sales for each performance end at 10 pm the day before. Doors to the Bartell Lobby open one hour before the performance with in person ticket sales starting at that time. Doors to the Drury Theatre will open half an hour before the show begins.

Edward J Moore's play is an engaging example of what might be termed "polished realism."

Together they drink, reminisce, drink some more, fail to eat breakfast, fight like two liquored-up Dobermans, make up, make out, rinse and repeat. The play's action amounts to a pattern of confrontational bickering and jolly ribbing, punctuated with flourishes of violent hysteria. It's exhausting to keep up with -- but then again, most relationships are.

Cast

Terry Kiss Frank (Gertrude Blum) has performed, conducted and directed for Madison Opera, Madison Repertory, Opera for the Young, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Oakwood Chamber Players and others. Favorite roles include Florence Foster Jenkins in Souvenir, Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret, Mame in Auntie Mame, Marthe in Faust, Blanche in Princess Ida, Betty Jean in Marvelous Wonderettes, Abbess in Sound of Music, Miss Hanningan in Annie and Mrs. Carstairs in The Secret of the Old Queen. Terry does voice-overs, writes children’s musicals and will be directing H.M.S. Pinafore for Madison Savoyards this July. She operates Bear’s Place, a small farm and animal hospice/sanctuary just west of Paoli. Her work for this production is dedicated to the memory of Richard Kabaker.

Stephen Gerard (Harry Bales) earned a BFA in illustration and art from the School of Visual Arts. He fell into acting after he moved to Madison in 2007. He appeared in local short films in Madison as well as several Hollywood movies and television shows and is thrilled to make his MTG debut in The Sea Horse. Stephen grew up in NYC and currently lives in Madison with his wife Hulya.
