Charles Dickens' novella A Christmas Carol was published and released on December 19, 1843. Nearly a century later, it was first broadcast on the radio by Campbell Playhouse, starring Orson Welles and the Mercury Theater of the Air, on December 23, 1938.
Don't miss special guest Norman Gilliland from Wisconsin Public Radio as he opens our Saturday 12/4 and Saturday 12/18 shows. Norman Gilliland is the host of weekday classical music programs and is co-producer of Midday Classics and University of the Air. He also hosts Old Time Radio Drama on Sunday evenings, and is the creator of GraceNotes, nationally broadcast vignettes drawn from the lives of classical music composers and performers.
